The expenditure figures shown above are as supplied by the health authorities.

The supply of medicines on grounds of hardship in individual cases is a relatively recent practice, and inconsistencies in the cost in different areas are likely to arise from variations in demand and varying standards for determination of eligibility. The methods of recording issues and of calculating cost may also contribute to the apparent inconsistencies in some of the figures shown above.
