Treacy

Mr. E. F. Suttle (An tArd Reachtaire Cuntas agus Ciste) called.

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

1. Deputy Healy.—I propose that Deputy Jones be the Chairman of the Committee. He is very fair and is well acquainted with the business of this Committee.

Deputy Briscoe.—I second that proposal.

Deputy Molloy.—I think we all agree with that proposal. Deputy Jones will certainly be a great help to the younger members of this Committee.

Question: “That Deputy Jones be Chairman of the Committee”—put and agreed to.

Deputy Jones took the Chair.

2. Chairman.—It has become a habit of mine to thank the members of the Committee of Public Accounts for electing me Chairman and to this position of trust. I am deeply honoured, and I am very grateful to the members of this Committee for their confidence. Coming on this Committee, as I did, some years ago, I found myself in the position in which Deputy Molloy, for, instance, now finds himself. My intention at all stages is to be helpful to the members of the Committee. I hope that, together, we shall be able to transact the business which the Dáil has sent us here to do. I know I shall have the co-operation of every member of the Committee and we shall try to conclude the business as expeditiously as possible. Thank you very much indeed.

The Committee adjourned.
