APPENDIX XXX.

GAELTACHT: TRANSPORT TO SECONDARY AND VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS.

At the proceedings of the Committee on the 2nd instant in connection with subhead F of the Vote for Roinn na Gaeltachta, 1963-64, I undertook to give the numbers benefiting from the scheme of grants to assist in providing transport services for Gaeltacht pupils to secondary and vocational schools. The numbers of pupils have been as follows in the past three school-years:—

In the financial year 1963-64 expenditure under this scheme was mainly in respect of the school-year 1962-63.

Under the scheme grants up to 80% of the cost of approved transport services are paid to the School Authorities subject to an annual limit of £50 per pupil for any particular service. A limit of £500 per school, which applied up to and including the school-year 1963-64, has been removed.
