ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

1. Deputy Crowley.—I propose that Deputy Jones take the Chair.

2. Deputy Hogan (South Tipperary)—I second the proposal.

3. Deputy Treacy.—I wish to associate myself with the proposal to re-elect Deputy Jones. He has been an outstanding Chairman, and has a thorough knowledge of the business with which this Committee are concerned.

Question: “That Deputy Jones be Chairman of the Committee”—put and agreed to.

DEPUTY JONES took the chair.

4. Chairman.—I am very grateful to the Committee for re-electing me. I should like to welcome the new members, two of whom are new Deputies. The procedure will become familiar to them in a short time and, with their assistance and co-operation, we hope to get quickly and efficiently through the important business with which this Committee has been entrusted by the Oireachtas. We are behind time due to the General Election, but if we work together we shall very quickly pick up on the back-log. I shall at all times be impartial and endeavour to protect the rights of members in respect of the questions they wish to put.

Deputy Briscoe.—I congratulate the Chairman on his re-election and assure him of my co-operation at all times.

Deputy P. J. Burke.—I regret I was a little late. I should have had great pleasure in proposing the re-election of Deputy Jones as Chairman.

The Committee adjourned.
