PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE

Thursday, 23rd April, 1964.

1. The Twenty Second meeting of the Committee took place at 12.30 p.m. in Room 106.


2. The following members were present:—


The Ceann Comhairle (Chairman), the Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach, Deputies Booth, J. J. Collins, Cunningham Faulkner, Kyne, MacCarthy, M. J. O’Higgins, O’Sullivan, Sherwin, Sweetman and Tully.


3. Statement reported in Press to have been made by Member.


The Committee resumed consideration of the complaint of a breach of privilege regarding a statement reported in the Press of 7th April to have been made by Deputy Richie Ryan.


Deputy Ryan was interviewed by the Committee. He stated that he had not made the allegation as reported and that he did not think his remarks on the occasion in question were open to the interpretation put upon them.


The Committee decided to accept the Member’s statement and to recommend to the Dáil that no further action should be taken in the matter.
