THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Colley (in the Chair), the Minister for Industry and Commerce, Deputies Booth, Byrne, Cosgrave, D. Costello, de Valera, K. P. Egan, Gallagher, Norton, T. G. O’Donnell, Pattison and Sweetman.


3. Consideration of Bill.


The Committee took the Bill into consideration.


(i) Section 1 agreed to.


(ii) Section 2.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Industry and Commerce):


“In subsection (1), in the definition of ‘existing company’ to delete ‘or deemed to have been registered, in the State’ and substitute ‘in a register kept in the State,’.”


Amendment agreed to.


Section, as amended, agreed to.


(iii) Section 3.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Industry and Commerce):


“To delete subsection (3).”


Amendment agreed to.


Section, as amended, agreed to.


(iv) Sections 4 to 7 inclusive, agreed to.


(v) Section 8.


Question proposed:—“That the section stand part of the Bill.”


Debate ensued.

The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill.


(i) Section 8.


Question again proposed:—“That the section stand part of the Bill.”


Question put, and agreed to.


(ii) Sections 9 to 21 inclusive, agreed to.


(iii) New Section.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Industry and Commerce):


“Before section 22, to insert a new section as follows:


‘(1) Every company carrying on business under a name other than its corporate name shall register in the manner directed by law for the registration of business names.


(2) The use of the abbreviation “Ltd.” for “Limited” or “Teo.” for “Teoranta” shall not of itself render such registration necessary.”’


Question:—“That the new section be there inserted”—put, and agreed to.


(iv) Section 22 deleted.


(v) Sections 23 to 30 agreed to.
