DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS: RATES PAID ON WIRES.

At the proceedings of the Committee on the 5th April, 1962, I undertook to supply information about rates paid on wires by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. These rates are paid to various local authorities in respect of telegraph and telephone lines taken over in the past from private undertakings which were liable to rates. Some payments are statutory, others are ex-gratia, and all are on the assessments in force when the properties were acquired.
