VOTE 8: APPROPRIATIONS IN AID.

During my examination before the Committee of Public Accounts on 3rd December, 1959, I undertook to supply a note on the discrepancy between the figure (£21,400) mentioned in the Estimates, 1958-59, as receipts for item 6, Appropriations in Aid, Vote 8 and the figure (£20,000) as “Payments to Office of Public Works” in Subhead M.7., Vote 26.

When our Estimates were being prepared in the Office of Public Works, the Department of Agriculture were informed in a letter dated 31st October, 1957 that our estimate of the value of services to be rendered in 1958-59 was £21,400. In subsequent discussion with the Department of Agriculture, we pointed out that the £21,400 was prepared from as accurate information as was available and that it should stand.

The desirability of the two figures being reconcilable has been mentioned to the Department of Agriculture.
