ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

1. Deputy Brennan.—Once again, I would like to perform the pleasant duty of proposing the outgoing Chairman, Deputy Dillon, for re-election. I think I speak for everybody when I say that we were highly satisfied with his chairmanship during the past year, and, particularly, with the consideration he has shown those of us who sometimes might be out of order, or irrelevant. By and large, I think he has made a very good job of conducting our meetings.

Deputy Sheldon.—I have great pleasure in seconding Deputy Dillon’s nomination. I am not quite sure whether the left-handed compliment Deputy Brennan passed to the Chairman, that he closed his eyes to order, is in order, but, apart from that, I think it is a great pleasure to be a member of the Committee with Deputy Dillon as Chairman.

Question put, and agreed to.

DEPUTY DILLON took the chair.

2. Chairman.—I am very much obliged to Deputy Brennan for a compliment that I do not regard in the least as detrimental, and to Deputy Sheldon for his gracious observation on the proposal. There is no other business to transact today because the Appropriation Accounts have not yet been published. As soon as they are published I shall have a word with the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Clerk to the Committee, and the earliest possible occasion, which is convenient for members of the Committee, will be taken to summon a meeting to open our consideration of the Accounts. Before closing the proceedings this morning I ask the Comptroller and Auditor General the customary question: “Have you any comment to make?”

Mr. Ó Cadhla.—I should say that it will be about the 1st November before the volume is printed. It was distributed on the 29th October last year and I think we shall find it possible to have our first meeting early in November. There is a difficulty with the printers. The first proofs are flowing back very slowly. August is a holiday month and I take it there is very little hope of the volume being available until much later.

Chairman.—As soon as it is available members of the Committee will each receive a copy and the first meeting for consideration of the Accounts will be arranged.

The Committee adjourned.
