APPENDIX X.

BENCH MARKS FOR ORDNANCE SURVEY OFFICE—EXPENDITURE ON.

Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

During my examination before the Committee of Public Accounts on 20th November, 1958, I undertook to supply information concerning the expenditure of £856 8s. on bench marks for the Ordnance Survey Office. These were not the usual small bench marks regularly seen throughout the country, but were Fundamental Bench Marks, constructed underground and consisting of certain fittings set in a solid concrete block carried down to bedrock to ensure stability and precision. They were provided in connection with the Ordnance Survey Office’s precise levelling programme for 1957-58. Twelve were provided, viz.: at the Phoenix Park, Ballinrobe, Enniscrone, Ballysodare, Portmore, Sarsfield Barracks (Limerick), Galway, Ennis, Slane, Daingean, Cloghan, Woodenbridge.
