With reference to my letter dated 27 Lúnasa, 1955, relative to the compilation of complete registers and rentals of all State lands and buildings administered by the Commissioners of Public Works, I enclose a statement of the progress made in the work during the year ended 31st March, 1956.

(Signed) DIARMUID Ó hEIGCEARTUIGH,

Chairman,

Commissioners of Public Works.

31 Deireadh Fómhair, 1956.

Mapping.—During the year 95 properties were surveyed while 102 properties were mapped, the counties concerned being Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Leix, Sligo, Wexford and Dublin City.

From the initiation of the Property Rental up to 31st March, 1956 a total of 993 properties have been surveyed while 970 have been mapped.

A Surveyor who resigned during the year has not yet been replaced.

Legal.—Preliminary legal work was done in respect of 31 properties in Dublin City and Co. Wexford and the final legal work was completed in respect of 99 cases in Counties Cork, Donegal, Leix, Sligo and Wexford. Progress on this side of the work continues to be hampered by staffing difficulties in the Office of the Finance Solicitor.

Secretariat.—During the year 99 properties were finally disposed of, the counties concerned being Cork, Donegal, Leix, Sligo and Wexford.

Perambulation.—The systematic perambulation of all properties, whether surveyed or not, in as full a manner as circumstances permitted, was continued throughout the year.
