APPENDIX XXI.

BOOKS IN IRISH SOLD AS WASTE PAPER AND BOOKS REMAINING ON HANDS

At the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee on 24th October, 1957, I undertook to furnish a list of books in Irish which were sold as waste paper and a list of books remaining on hands.

I forward herewith a list of the 68 books which were sold as waste paper in 1955. Particulars of sales up to 31st March, 1957 are now available in respect of all the books in Irish published, totalling 1,126 titles. These particulars are now being examined and a list of the titles for which there is now little or no demand will be supplied to you as soon as possible. In the preparation of the list it may be necessary in certain cases to ascertain whether any special copyright conditions apply to the disposal of the books.
