THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11.45 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Dillon (in the Chair), Deputies Booth, J. Brennan, Carty, Cunningham, Haughey, Jones, Larkin and Sheldon.


3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1955-56.


Consideration of Appropriation Accounts for the year 1955-56 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of:— President’s Establishment, Houses of the Oireachtas, Department of the Taoiseach, Central Statistics Office, Office of the Minister for Finance, Management of Government Stocks, State Laboratory, Civil Service Commission, An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Commissions and Special Inquiries, Superannuation and Retired Allowances, Secret Service, Expenses under the Electoral Act and the Juries Act, Supplementary Agricultural Grants, Law Charges, Universities and Colleges, Miscellaneous Expenses, Oifig na Gaeltachta agus na gCeantar gCúng, Repayments to Contingency Fund, Remuneration, National Development Fund, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, Charitable Donations and Bequests, Rates on Government Property, Valuation and Boundary Survey and Ordnance Survey.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. T. K. Whitaker (Secretary, Department of Finance), Mr. R. P. Rice (Chairman, Revenue Commissioners), Mr. J. S. Martin (Secretary, Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests), Mr. J. N. McGrath (Commissioner of Valuation), Mr. P. S. Mac Guill and Mr. S. Ó Buachalla (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor-General were examined.


5. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 12.50 p.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday next.
