I am directed by the Minister for Finance to inform the Committee of Public Accounts that it is proposed, for reasons of administrative convenience, and having regard to the provisions of section 1 (v) of the Ministers and Secretaries Act, 1924, under which the Minister for Education is responsible, inter alia, for university education, that the Vote for Universities and Colleges, which at present is accounted for by the Office of the Minister for Finance, should be accounted for in future by the Office of the Minister for Education. I am directed by the Minister for Finance to refer to this Department’s minute (F. 68/2/42) of 28 September, 1956, regarding the transfer of accounting responsibility for the Vote for Universities and Colleges, and to inform you that the Accounting Officership of the Vote has been transferred accordingly, with effect from 1 April, 1957, from Mr. T. I am directed by the Minister for Finance to inform you that, under the Gaeltacht (Transfer of the Department Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1956, the Government has transferred the administration of Gaeltacht Services from the Minister for Lands to the Minister for the Gaeltacht. The Accounting Officership of the Vote for Gaeltacht Services has consequently been transferred from Mr. Timothy O’Brien, Secretary of the Department of Lands, to Mr. Seán Ó Braonáin, Secretary of the Department of the Gaeltacht. The Accounting Officership of the Vote for Fisheries has consequently been transferred from Mr. John Dempsey, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, to Mr. Timothy O’Brien, Secretary of the Department of Lands.
