EXCHEQUER EXTRA RECEIPTS—1954-55. HOUSES OF THE OIREACHTAS.

Arising out of my examination by the Public Accounts Committee on the 13th instant in connexion with the Appropriation Account of the Vote for Houses of the Oireachtas for the financial year 1954-55, I am to inform you that the Exchequer Extra Receipt of £70 entitled “Refund of overpayments” consists of two amounts, as follows:—

(1) £60. 15. 2. being that portion of a sum received in November, 1954 —in respect of trunk calls and telegrams sent on the direct lines installed in Leinster House for the leaders of opposition parties— which related to telephone accounts paid in previous years. The amount could not have been credited back to the subhead directly because the Appropriation Accounts for the relevant years were closed.

(2) £9. 12. 6. representing the recovery in November, 1954, of an overpayment of travelling expenses to a member of An Dáil in the year 1953-54.
