1. The Committee met at 2 p.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:


Deputy Carter (in the Chair), Deputies Bartley, Mrs. Crowley, H. P. Dockrell, Moher, O’Hara and Sheldon.


3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1953-54.


Consideration of Appropriation Accounts for the year 1953-54 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of:—President’s Establishment, Houses of the Oireachtas, Department of the Taoiseach, Central Statistics Office, Office of the Minister for Finance, Management of Government Stocks, State Laboratory, Civil Service Commission, An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Commissions and Special Inquiries, Superannuation and Retired Allowances, Rates on Government Property, Secret Service, Expenses under the Electoral Act and the Juries Act, Supplementary Agricultural Grants, Law Charges, Universities and Colleges, Miscellaneous Expenses, Oifig na Gaeltachta agus na gCeantar gCúng, Local Loans Fund, Increases in Remuneration, National Development Fund, Repayments to Contingency Fund, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, Public Record Office, National Gallery, Valuation and Boundary Survey and Ordnance Survey.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. O. J. Redmond (Secretary, Department of Finance), Mr. R. P. Rice (Chairman, Revenue Commissioners), Mr. D. Coffey (Public Record Office), Mr. T. McGreevy (Director, National Gallery), Mr. J. N. McGrath (Commissioner of Valuation), Mr. M. Breathnach and Mr. T.J. Malone (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.

The Committee adjourned at 4.40 p.m.
