REGISTERS AND RENTALS OF STATE LANDS AND BUILDINGS.

With Reference to my letter dated 23 Meitheamh, 1952, relative to the compilation of complete registers and rentals of all State lands and buildings administered by the Commissioners of Public Works, I enclose a statement of the progress made in the work during the year ended 31st March, 1953.

COMPILATION OF PROPERTY RENTAL: YEAR 1952-53.

Mapping: During the year, 93 properties were surveyed, while 89 properties were mapped, the Counties concerned being Carlow, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Sligo, Wicklow and Dublin City.


From the initiation of the Property Rental up to 31st March, 1953, a total of 731 properties have been surveyed, of which 711 have been mapped.


The surveying and mapping of Dublin City properties was continued during the year, and the following properties were completed:

Upper Merrion Street.

Survey work on Dublin Castle was commenced, and three of the four Surveyors were allocated to this work. The Ship Street block, Leitrim House, the Clock Tower building, the Upper Yard buildings, including the State apartments, and portions of the Lower Yard buildings have been surveyed.


Legal: The preliminary legal work was done in respect of 93 properties. That for Co. Longford is now completed, while a start has been made on Co. Cork. The work on Dublin City properties was continued throughout the year.


The final legal work was completed in 102 cases in Counties Carlow, Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Sligo, Wicklow, and in Dublin City.


Secretariat: During the year, 91 properties were finally disposed of, while the Secretarial work on 11 other properties was partly done. The Counties concerned were: Carlow, Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Sligo, Wicklow and Dublin City.


Perambulation: The systematic perambulation of all properties, whether surveyed or not, in as full a manner as circumstances permitted, was continued throughout the year.
