APPENDIX X.

SHORTAGE IN OFFICIAL REMITTANCES FROM AN UAIMH HEAD OFFICE TO DONAGHPATRICK AND WILKINSTOWN SUB-OFFICES.

The remittances were cash remittances from An Uaimh Head Office which on receipt at the Sub-Offices, were found to be less by £6 and £5 respectively than the amounts purported to have been dispatched from the Head Office.

Investigation of the losses by the Department’s Investigation Branch failed to establish responsibility for the losses. Shortly after they occurred £10 restitution was received anonymously at Headquarters in an envelope which had been posted at An Uaimh and it may be that this relates to the losses.

Exhaustive examination of the remittance system and cash security arrangements at An Uaimh Head Office did not disclose that additional safeguards were called for.
