IMEACHTA AN CHOISTE SPEISIALTA.THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE.Dé Máirt, 22ú Aibreán, 1952.Tuesday, 22nd April, 1952.1. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. 2. Members Present. The following members were present:— Deputy V. de Valera (in the Chair), the Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Cowan and Hilliard. 3. Consideration of Bill. The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill. (i) Section 154. Question again proposed: “That the section, as amended, stand part of the Bill.” Question put, and agreed to. (ii) Sections 155 to 161 inclusive, agreed to. (iii) Section 162. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan). “In paragraph (b), line 40, before ‘fails’ to insert ‘without reasonable cause’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (iv) Sections 163 to 166 inclusive, agreed to. (v) Section 167. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan). “In subsection (1), line 3, before ‘is to insert ‘(as hereinafter defined in the section)’.” Question put: the Committee divided:—For, 1; Against, 5. For:—Deputy Cowan. Against:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley and Hilliard. The Question was declared negatived accordingly. Section agreed to. (vi) Section 168. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1) to delete paragraph (a), line 47.” Question put: the Committee divided: For, 1; Against, 5. For:—Deputy Cowan. Against:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley and Hilliard. The Question was declared negatived accordingly. Section agreed to. (vii) Section 169 agreed to. (viii) Section 170. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan) “In subsection (2), page 74, paragraph (e), lines 41 and 42, to delete ‘any person subject to military law who is so authorised by any commanding officer’ and substitute ‘any officer or man’.” Debate ensued. Further consideration of the Bill adjourned. 4. Adjournment. The Committee adjourned at 9.55 p.m. until 7.30 p.m. to-morrow. |
