THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

Wednesday, 18th June, 1952.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputies P. Brady, S. Collins, Mrs. Crowley, M. E. Dockrell, McGrath, Palmer and Sheldon.


3. Election of Chairman.


Deputy Palmer moved:—


“That Deputy Sheldon be Chairman of the Committee.”


Question put, and agreed to.


Deputy Sheldon took the Chair accordingly.


4. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1950-51.


Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1950-51 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of:—President’s Establishment, Houses of the Oireachtas, Department of the Taoiseach, Central Statistics Office, Office of the Minister for Finance, Management of Government Stocks, State Laboratory, Civil Service Commission, Irish Tourist Board, Commissions and Special Inquiries, Superannuation and Retired Allowances, Rates on Government Property, Secret Service, Expenses under the Electoral Act and the Juries Act, Supplementary Agricultural Grants, Law Charges, Universities and Colleges, Miscellaneous Expenses, Damage to Property (Neutrality) Compensation, Transition Development Fund, Technical Assistance, Alleviation of Distress, Repayment to Contingency Fund, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, Valuation and Boundary Survey, Ordnance Survey, Dundrum Asylum, Public Record Office, Charitable Donations and Bequests and National Gallery.


5. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. J. J. McElligott (Secretary, Department of Finance), Mr. R. P. Rice (Chairman, Revenue Commissioners), Mr. C. C. McElligott (Commissioners of Valuation), Dr. W. J. Coyne (Dundrum Asylum), Mr. D. Coffey (Public Record Office), Mr. J. S. Martin (Secretary, Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests). Mr. T. MacGreevy (Director, National Gallery), Mr. M. Breathnach (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.

The Committee adjourned at 1.30 p.m. until Thursday, 26th June.
