THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

Thursday, 24th October, 1946.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Present: Deputy Cosgrave (in the Chair), Deputies B. Brady, Briscoe, E. Coogan, M. E. Dockrell, Gorry, Loughman, Lydon, Moran, M. O’Sullivan, Pattison and Sheldon.


3. Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1944-45 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of: President’s Establishment, Houses of the Oireachtas, Department of the Taoiseach, Office of the Minister for Finance, Management of Government Stocks, State Laboratory, Civil Service Commission, Irish Tourist Board, Commissions and Special Inquiries, Superannuation and Retired Allowances, Rates on Government Property, Secret Service, Expenses under the Electoral Act and the Juries Act, Miscellaneous Expenses, Supplementary Agricultural Grants, Law Charges, Universities and Colleges, Emergency Scientific Research Bureau, Damage to Property (Neutrality) Compensation, Personal Injuries (Civilians) Compensation, Alleviation of Distress, Repayments to Contingency Fund, Office of the Revenue Commissioners and Old Age Pensions.


4. Mr. J. J. McElligott (Secretary, Department of Finance), Mr. T. Cleary (Chairman, Revenue Commissioners) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.


5. The Committee adjourned at 12.30 p.m. till Thursday, 7th November, 1946.
