SLIOCHT AS IMEACHTA AN CHOISTE.

EXTRACT FROM PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

Dé Céadaoin, 10ú Iúil, 1946.

Wednesday, 10th July, 1946.

1. The Committee met at 11.15 a.m. in Room 106.

2. The following members were present:—

The Ceann Comhairle (Chairman); The Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach; Deputies Beegan, Breen, Briscoe, Donnellan and Loughman.

3. Wearing of Gowns by Ceann Comhairle and Leas-Cheann Comhairle.

Paragraph 2 of the Committee’s Report, T. 116, was reconsidered by the Committee pursuant to the Order of the Dáil of the 3rd instant. Having considered the opinions expressed in the House on that day in regard to the wearing of a gown by the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, the majority of the members of the Committee were of the view that the Leas-Cheann Comhairle should wear a gown but that the garment should be distinguished from that of the Ceann Comhairle by being of simpler design. Deputy Breen dissented from this decision. It was felt that a final decision in the matter should be left to a free vote of the Dáil.

Draft Report to be circulated accordingly.
