APPENDIX IX.

NUMBERS OF STUDENTS FROM DUBLIN CITY ADMITTED TO THE TRAINING COLLEGES FOR NATIONAL TEACHERS.

In the course of my examination before the Committee of Public Accounts on 5th July, 1945, I undertook to furnish information as to the numbers of students from Dublin City who enter the Training Colleges for National Teachers.

Recruitment to the Colleges has been drastically restricted in recent years with the object of helping to solve the problem of unemployment amongst trained teachers. In the circumstances, figures for 1937, before the period of drastic curtailment began, are included. The total numbers of lay students, and the number from Dublin City, admitted to training in 1937, 1943, and 1944 were:—
