APPENDIX IX.

SLIEVEARDAGH COALFIELD CO., LTD. FEES TO VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMMITTEES. GUARANTEES BY TRADE LOAN ADVISORY COMMITTEES.

In the course of my examination before the Committee of Public Accounts I undertook to furnish information upon the following points:


(1) The total amounts of interest due by Cómhlucht Gual-Lathrach Shliabh Ardachadh, Teoranta, to the end of the 1942/43 financial year and at 31st December, 1944 were £1,835 16s. and £8,532 18s. 5d., respectively. The corresponding figures with regard to Cómhlucht Lorgtha agus Forbartha Mianrai, Teoranta, were £854 17s. 2d. and £11,710 12s. 7d.


(2) Vocational Education Committees function under the Department of Education. Under the Apprenticeship Act of 1931 (Section 26) an Apprenticeship Committee may make representations to the Minister for Education to have Vocational Education courses established for apprentices. This course has been taken in connection with the Dublin Hairdressing Trade and the Furniture Trade (Dublin). These are the only such courses in existence and are provided by the Vocational Education Committee for the City of Dublin.


(3) In the case of the Peat Fuel Co., Ltd., the giving of the guarantee by the Minister under the provisions of the Trade Loan (Guarantee) Acts, 1924-1934 was recommended by an Advisory Committee whilst in the case of the Ballysax Brick & Tile Co. Ltd., the giving of the guarantees was not recommended by the Advisory Committee which considered the applications.
