IMEACHTA NA CO-CHOMHAIRLE.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONFERENCE.

1. The Conference met at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 31st March, 1943.


2. The following members were present:—


Representing the Dáil: Deputies Bennett, Breathnach, Byrne (Junior), P. J. Fogarty, Linehan, McCann and Norton;


Representing the Seanad:— Senators Mrs. Concannon, Conlon, Crosbie, Foran, Goulding, M. Hayes and O’Dwyer.


3. Deputy McCann moved:


“That Senator Hayes be Chairman of the Conference.”


Question put, and agreed to.


Senator Hayes took the Chair accordingly.


4. Senator Crosbie moved:


“That the Conference recommend that the Seanad do not insist on its disagreement with the amendments made by the Dáil to Seanad Amendments Nos. 1 and 2 to the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, 1942.”


Amendment proposed (Senator Foran):


“To add at the end of the proposed motion the following:—


‘but that the said Dáil amendments be agreed to with a modification to the effect that the closing hour for licensed premises in Country Boroughs on Saturday nights be 10 p.m. during any period, whether it is or is not a period of summer time’.”


Question:—“That the proposed words be there added”— put, and negatived.


Main Question put, and agreed to.


5. Draft Report brought in by the Chairman and read as follows:—


“The Conference recommends that the Seanad do not insist on its disagreement with the amendments made by the Dáil to Seanad Amendments Nos. 1 and 2 to the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, 1942.”


Question:—“That the Chairman’s Draft Report be the Report of the Conference”—put, and agreed to.


Ordered: to report accordingly.


6. The Conference concluded its business at 5.15 p.m.
