APPENDIX VIII.

VOTE 64, SUBHEAD C, PURCHASE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND MUSIC.

At the Public Accounts Committee meeting on 25th ultimo, I undertook to ascertain whether the whole of the excess on this subhead, viz., £867 5s. 9d., was due to the purchase of pianos. I find that £866 was so due, being the amount paid, inclusive of Customs charges and freight charges, for two Steinway Grand Pianos. The balance of £1 5s. 9d. was due to the purchase of music, an item which is not easy to estimate with entire accuracy.
