APPENDIX VI.THEFT IN GARDA SUPERINTENDENT’S OFFICE.The explanatory note to the Account covers the entire matter, including the £8 10s. 0d. referred to by the Chairman. The sum stolen included this £8 10s. 0d., consisting of petty cash and certain firearms fees, which were recorded as book-keeping items in a suspense account. The theft represented an actual loss of public moneys, and, as such, in accordance with accountancy practice, was shown in the Appropriation Account as expenditure under a special sub-head.
