The main building was first fully constructed in Dublin in sections, and then dismantled and transferred to and re-erected in a remote location in the country. The constructional work was carried out by direct labour in charge of a clerk of works under the supervision of our Architect.

The form of construction was adopted with the agreement of the Department of Justice as the most expeditious means of providing urgently required accommodation for the Gárdaí, as it was possible to proceed with the constructional work in Dublin while steps were being taken to acquire a suitable site in the country and thus to provide a Barrack ready for occupation within a very short time after the acquisition of the site.

The site was purchased for £20.
