APPENDIX VI.LETTER FROM MR. G. H. NORMAN TO DEPUTY McGILLIGAN.58 Lansdowne Road, Dublin. 12th November, 1935. Qs. 4971-4975; 5033-5047. P. O’Toole, Esq., M.A., Secretary to the Committee on the Demise of certain State Mining Rights, Leinster House, Dublin. A Chara, As previously notified to you by phone and in conversation I had been for a long time unable to trace among my papers the communication referred to in your letter of 12th October. I have since discovered it, and send it with this. I notice that it bears date of 1st June, and not 1st July. The date on it is undoubtedly a mistake. My first meeting with Mr. Norman, Senior, did not take place until after I had first spoken—about mid-June —on this subject in Dáil Eireann. The letter from Mr. G. Norman was later again than my meeting with his father. The “summary” which accompanied this letter should be now in Mr. G. Norman’s possession. I returned it to his father for him. Yours sincerely, (Signed) P. McGILLIGAN. (Enclosure.) Cullentra House, Rathdown, Co. Wicklow, 1st June, 1935. Dear Sir, My father has asked me to give you a summary of my activities in connection with the gold in Wicklow; herewith please find same enclosed. If you should require my presence at inquiry and can give me a day’s notice, you could phone Glendalough Guards’ Barracks, or if you require me urgently, you could phone the Guards at Roundwood, Co. Wicklow, as they will know where I will be found, during working hours. An hour will take me to Dublin. I am, Yours faithfully, (Signed) GRATTAN H. NORMAN. (Per J. M. N.). |
