IMEACHTA AN ROGHA-COMMITTEE.PROCEEDINGS OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE.Dé Máirt, 2adh Iúl, 1935.Tuesday, 2nd July, 1935.1. The Committee met at 5.30 p.m. 2. Present: Deputies J. Coburn, J. A. Costello, T. P. Dowdall, D. Fitzgerald, J. Fitzgerald-Kenney, J. Geoghegan, S. Moore, W. Norton, O Traynor and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance. 3. Motion made (Deputy Geoghegan): “That Deputy Norton be Chairman of the Committee.” Motion made (Deputy Costello): “That Deputy Fitzgerald be Chairman of the Committee.” Question put: “That Deputy Norton be Chairman of the Committee.” The Committee divided: For, 5; Against, 4. For—Deputies Dowdall, Geoghegan, Moore, Traynor and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance. Against—Deputies Coburn, Costello, Fitzgerald and Fitzgerald-Kenney. The question was declared carried. Deputy Norton took the Chair accordingly. 2. Ordered: That the entire proceedings of the Committee be reported verbatim and that the Press be admitted to all meetings. 3. Ordered: That the quorum of the Committee be seven members. 4. Ordered: That witnessess appearing before this Committee be examined on oath. 5. Ordered: That the Secretaries, or other duly authorised officials who have knowledge of the matter, of the Departments of Industry and Commerce and of Finance be directed to attend before the Committee with all documents in their possession, power or procurement relating to the subject matter of this inquiry, and be requested to bring 20 copies of each document. 6. Ordered: That application be made to the Dáil for an Order— (a) That the Order of Reference be amended by the fixing of the quorum in pursuance of Standing Order No. 65, (b) that the quorum be fixed at seven members, and (c) that the Committee be empowered to alter the quorum from time to time. 7. Ordered: That application be made to the Dáil for an Order— That the Order of Reference be extended to include the power to hear Counsel on behalf of witnesses if the Committee thinks fit and to fix procedure in connection therewith. 8. Ordered: That application be made to the Dáil for an Order— That the Order of Reference be extended to include the power of determining questions of procedure not already determined by the Standing Orders. 9. Interim Report. The Chairman brought forward a Draft Interim Report Motion made (Deputy Fitzgerald): “That the Chairman’s Draft Interim Report be the Interim Report of the Committee.” Question put, and agreed to. Ordered: To report accordingly. 10. Next Meeting. To be summoned by the Chairman for a date to be fixed after the documents mentioned in Paragraph 5 are available. 11. The Committee adjourned at 6.40 p.m. |
