PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE.

Thursday, 2nd May, 1935.

1. The Joint Committee met at 10.30 a.m.


2. Present: Senator Michael Comyn, K.C., Chairman: Deputies G. C. Bennett, A. Haslett and B. Maguire; Senators Sir Edward Coey Bigger, J. C. Dowdall and T. Johnson.


3. Mr. T. G. Marnan, Counsel, and Mr. C. J. Rutherfoord, Parliamentary Agent, appeared for the promoters, the Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland.


4. Mr. Marnan was heard in support of the Preamble of the Bill and called evidence.


5. Mr. Thomas F. Hennessy, Assistant General Manager of the Bank of Ireland, was sworn and examined.


Room cleared. The Committee deliberated.


6. Question:—“That the Preamble is proved” put: the Committee divided: For, 4: Against, 2.


For:—Deputies Bennett and Haslett; Senators Sir Edward Coey Bigger and Dowdall.


Against:—Deputy Maguire and Senator Johnson.


The Question was declared carried accordingly.


7. Parties called in and informed of the decision of the Joint Committee.


8. Sections considered, amended and agreed to.


9. Report read and agreed to.


10. Ordered to report to both Houses.


11. Ordered that the evidence be printed in pursuance of S.O. 81 (Private Business).
