REPORT OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON THE LIMERICK HARBOUR TRAMWAYS BILL, 1930.

1. The Joint committee was constituted as follows:—Deputy F. Fahy Chairman: Deputies Conion. Davin and Moore: Senators Fanning, Farren and O’Hanlon.


2. The Joint Committee considered the Bill on Tuesday, 3rd March, 1931.


3. The Joint Committee report that they have examined the Preamble of the Bill and have amended same by striking out as being unnecessary the provision for the borrowing of a sum not exceeding £35,000 in respect of the works authorised by the Bill and inserting a provision enabling the application to the purposes of the Bill of portion of the moneys borrowed or to be borrowed for the purposes of the Limerick Harbour Act, 1926; that the allegations contained in the Preamble, as amended, have been proved to their satisfaction, that they have gone through the Bill and have made amendments thereunto; and that they have amended the Title as follows :—


“AN ACT TO AUTHORISE THE CONSTRUCTION BY THE LIMERICK HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS OF TRAMWAYS CONNECTING THE PORT AND HARBOUR OF LIMERICK WITH THE RAILWAYS OF THE GREAT SOUTHERN RAILWAYS COMPANY AND TO CONFER ADDITIONAL POWERS ON THE LIMERICK HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS FOR BORROWING AND SECURING THE REPAYMENT OF MONIES BORROWED FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE LIMERICK HARBOUR ACT, 1926, AND TO ENABLE THE LIMERICK HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS TO APPLY FORTION OF SUCH MONIES POR THE PURPOSES OF THIS ACT.”


4. In considering the Bill the Joint Committee have had before them a report on the Bill from the Departments fo Industry and Commerce and of Local Government and Public Health respectively. The manner in which the recommendations of the said Departments have been dealt with is shown in Appendix (A) and Appendix (B) respectively.
