REPORT OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO CONSIDER THE CONSTITUTION (AMENDMENT No. 5) BILL, 1926.

1. This Committee was appointed by the Seanad on the 2nd February, 1927. The Committee is constituted as follows:—Senators Bennett, Brady, Douglas, Lord Glenavy, Rt. Hon. Andrew Jameson, Sir John Keane, Kenny, O’Farrell and Siobhán Bean an Phaoraigh.


2. The Committee met on the 10th February, 1927. There were present:—Senators Bennett, Brady, Douglas, Lord Glenavy, Rt. Hon. Andrew Jameson, Kenny, O’Farrell and Siobhán Bean an Phaoraigh. The Minister for Justice was also in attendance.


3. Lord Glenavy was moved to the Chair.


4. After a general discussion as to the purposes and effect of the Bill, it was unanimously agreed that the Committee recommend that the further consideration of the Bill should be postponed and that in the meantime a Joint Committee of both Houses should be set up to consider and report as to the question of the eligibility of members of the Seanad for membership of the Government and that the Dáil should be asked to concur in the appointment of such a Committee.
