IMEACHTA AN CHOISTE.PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.Déardaoin, 9 Feabhra, 1928.Thursday, 9 February, 1928.1. The Committee met at 2.30 p.m. 2. The following members were present:—The Minister for Industry and Commerce, Deputies Brady, Sir James Craig, P. S. Doyle, Keogh, Thrift and Ward. 3. It was announced that the Chairman was unavoidably absent. Deputy P. S. Doyle moved: “That Deputy Thrift act as Chairman in the absence of Deputy Cooper.” Question put, and agreed to. Deputy Thrift took the Chair. 4. The Committee considered certain claims for inclusion in the Second Schedule, submitted to the Minister for Industry and Commerce. 5. The Committee took up the consideration of the Bill. (i) Section 28. Amendment proposed (Minister for Industry and Commerce): “To delete sub-section (1) and substitute four new sub-sections as follows:— ‘(1) The several persons named in the Second Schedule to this Act shall, on passing an examination prescribed and held under this section within seven years after the passing of this Act and on making the prescribed application and paying the prescribed fee, be entitled to be registered in the register. (2) Any of the persons named in the Second Schedule to this Act may (unless he has already passed an examination held under this section) demand that an examination in dentistry be held under this section and may make such demand at any time within seven years after the passing of this Act. (3) Whenever an examination is demanded under this section an examination for the purposes of this section shall be held as soon thereafter as conveniently may be or, where an examination has been held under this section within six months before such demand, at the expiration of such six months and public notice of such examination shall be given and every of the persons named in the Second Schedule to this Act shall be entitled to attend and be examined at such examination. (4) Where a demand for an examination is made under this section before the establishment of the Board such demand shall be made in writing to and the examination shall be prescribed and held by the Minister, and where a demand for an examination is made under this section after the establishment of the Board such demand shall be made in writing to and the examination shall be prescribed and held by the Board.”’ Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Minister for Industry and Commerce): “To delete sub-section (2) and substitute two new sub-sections as follows:— ‘(2) Every of the persons named in the Second Schedule to this Act who is registered in the register under this section and is resident in Saorstát Eireann shall so long as he is so resident and registered be entitled to vote and be elected at an election of the elected members of the Board held after he is so registered as if he were registered in the register by virtue of a previous registration in the General Dentists Register under section 3 of the Dentists Act, 1921. (3) Every of the persons named in the Third Schedule to this Act shall be deemed for the purposes of this Act to be registered at the passing of this Act in the General Dentists Register under section 3 of the Dentists Act, 1921, and shall accordingly have until the establishment of the register all the rights in relation to practising, voting, and otherwise conferred by this Act on persons so registered and shall also be entitled (subject to payment of the prescribed fee) to be registered in the register at the establishment thereof.” Question put, and agreed to. Draft Report brought in by the Chairman (Deputy Thrift) read a first and second time, and passed as follows:— The Special Committee, to which the Dentists Bill, 1927 was referred, has gone through section 28 and the Second Schedule and has made amendments therein. A Third Schedule has been added in accordance with an amendment made in section 28. Ordered: to report accordingly. 7. The Committee concluded its business at 5.40 p.m. |
