The Committee met at 11 a.m. 2. Senators present. The following Senators attended the Sitting:— Seanadóirí Senators Sir Nugent Everard, Thomas Foran, Sir John Griffith, Sir John Keane, Thomas Linehan, Colonel Moore and M. F. O’Hanlon. Senator Linehan was in the Chair. 3. The River Owenmore Drainage Bill, 1925. (i) Sections 1 to 6, inclusive, agreed to. (ii) Section 7. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): To delete paragraph (a) and to substitute the following paragraph therefor:— “(a) the Commissioners shall pay out of moneys under their control and applicable to loans a sum equal to the entire costs and expenses aforesaid in this Act occasionally referred to as the advance by the Commissioners.” Amendment withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): To delete paragraph (b). Amendment withdrawn. Section 7 agreed to. (iii) Sections 8 and 9 agreed to. (iv) Section 10. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (1). To delete all after the word “thereon” in line 62 and to substitute therefor the words “and an annual sum equal to six per cent. on the total amount of the advance payable under this Act in discharge of the said advance and interest.” Amendment withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (2). After the word “thereon” in line 67 to delete the words “the annual” sum of five hundred and fifty pounds” and to substitute therefor the words “an annual sum equal to six per cent. on the total amount of the advance.” Amendment withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (3). In line 7 to delete the words “five hundred and fifty pounds” and to substitute therefor the words “six per cent. on the total amount of the advance.” Amendment withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (3). In line 11 to delete the words “five hundred and fifty pounds” and to substitute therefor the words “six per cent. on the total amount of the advance.” Amendment withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (4). In lines 15-16 to delete the words “five hundred and fifty pounds” and to substitute therefor the words “six per cent. on the total amount of the advance” Amendment withdrawn. Section 10 agreed to. (v) Section 11 agreed to. (vi) Section 12. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): Sub-section (2). To delete all the words after the word “rate” in line 30 down to and including the word “pounds” in line 33 and to substitute therefor the words “a sum equal to six per cent. on the total amount of the advance together with five hundred pounds, whereof a sum equal to six per cent. on the total amount of the advance shall be applied in payment of the said annual sum of six per cent. on the total amount of the advance.” Amendment withdrawn. Section 12 agreed to. (vii) New Section. Amendment proposed (Senator Linehan): After section 12 to insert a new section 13 as follows:— “13.—If a majority of the rated occupiers specified in section 2 (2) (d) of this Act communicate to the Commissioners before the time limited in the notices served on them under Section 3 (1) (b) of this Act their objection to the Draft Scheme no further steps shall be taken to put the scheme into operation.” Amendment withdrawn.
