Report of the Select Committee appointed to Consider the Gárda Síochána Bill, 1924.

1. The Committee met on Wednesday, the 11th June, 1924.


2. Senator Douglas was moved to the Chair. Other Senators present were:—S. L. Brown, K.C., Mrs. A. S. Green, Mrs: Wyse Power, James Moran and J. T. O’Farrell. The Minister for Justice was also in attendance.


3. The Committee, having taken the Bill into consideration, made certain amendments therein. These are shown in the Appendix to this Report.

APPENDIX.

1. Section 7, sub-section (2). The sub-section deleted and the following new sub-section substituted therefor:—


“(2) Every Order made under this Section shall be laid before each House of the Oireachtas as soon as may be after it is made, and if a resolution annulling such Order is passed by either House within twenty-one days after the day on which such House shall next sit, such Order shall be annulled accordingly, but without prejudice to the validity of anything previously done under such Order.”


2. Section 8, sub-section (2). All the words after the word “by” in line 56 deleted and the words “a resolution of each such House” substituted therefor.


3. section 12. The words “to all intents and purposes” in line 35 deleted.


4. Section 23. The words “Home Affairs” in line 29 deleted and the word “Justice” substituted therefor.
